New Year, New Me...

This is the year I grow. This is the year I get things done. This is the year I make myself happier. And music is going to help me do that.

This year, one of the things I hope to do is practice my instruments more. I want to practice the clarinet at least one hour a day, like I should be doing. I haven’t motivated myself to achieve this goal and this year I am really going to push myself to do this. For Christmas, my mother surprised me with a brand new Buffet clarinet, R13 (which, if you don’t know, is AMAZING). I hope this motivates me to want to practice more this year and helps me achieve what I want to achieve.

I also need to practice the piano more. I need to practice at least 45 minutes a day, I want to go up a level instead of half a level in my piano lessons. I want to be overly prepared for my juries in the spring for both clarinet and piano. I spoke with my professor the other day about what the plan is for this year and she wants to throw a lot of repertoire at me this semester, and I am very excited. I need to up my piano skills and I think this is just the answer. Along with this, my boyfriend wants me to teach him piano. Doing this will really motivate me to get in the practice rooms and play as well as start thinking about what its like to teach piano. My niece wants me to teach her how to play over the summer and she is four years old, so this can really prepare me for instances like this.

With just these two goals in mind for this upcoming year, I think I’ll be able to grow, to get things done, and become happier. Playing music has always been a hobby of mine and I think in 2016 I looked at it more as work because it is what I’m studying now. This year I want to fall back in love with it and just share and explore my passion. I can’t wait to see what becomes of me by the end of 2017 with these goals in mind; I’ll keep you posted.

Thanks for reading, and share below what your goals are for 2017!
